Boy:
My inspiration for this piece was I believe it would be a easy task to draw and shade coming back from not drawing like this for almost 3 years. I also liked how it was a young boy that didn't have that much texture and lines in his face.
The process I used was first I created a grid, then I mapped out the eyes nose mouth and neck, after that I began to work on the eyes and complete the eyes, after that I shaded the whole piece. I finished this piece by going back with a cotton ball and smoothening out my shading where lines could barely be visible.
Bowl of Oranges:
My inspiration for this piece is that I wanted to do something else that no one was doing and at first I was going to do just a bowl of random fruits. Then I decided to do just a bowl of oranges and tried out stippling on the oranges because they have that stippled look.
The process I used was first I sketched out my drawing after that I outlined lightly where my dark, light, and highlighted spots were. After that I began stippling from the dark areas to the light areas so if I made it too light I could go back and add more. After that I added the bowl and completed it.
Colorful Sky:
My inspiration for this piece is that I saw the range of colors that the image I used had and it really caught my eye. I wanted a challenge and the image I used seemed like a challenge to me with the way the colors was, and how you had to blend them.
The process I used was, first I mapped out where my lightest spots were going to be in the sky then I went through and did a was with the colors. After that I went through and darkened the colors and blended them so it didn't look like it was lines in the sky, finally I added in my trees and I used a flat brush to do that.
Goldfish:
My inspiration for this piece, is that I was trying to show how animals can be seen different just because of their actions. This felt like a challenge to me because I have never used acrylic paint before.
The process I used was, first I created a good sketch then traced it onto the canvas. Then I began painting my background blending the two main colors, after that I began adding color onto the fish and the shark fin. Finally I added the last bit of details.
Kanaloa:
My inspiration for this piece is I liked how the tiki was god of the sea and had squid like dreads. I also wanted to make him look like a guy that would surf. I didn't really have any ideas for the mouth and how big I wanted it so I just decided to make him have a expression.
The process I used was first I got clay then I rolled it out and rolled it onto a cylinder. After that I smoothed out where I made my connecting and began with the eyes, I cut out the eye holes then began stretching the eyes to give it the look it has now. Then I added eye brows and cut out the hole for the mouth and began to form it to give it an expression. after that I added the dreads and the squid tentacles and added boulders around the outside.
Elephant:
In my artwork there is an elephant, the title of this piece is elephant. In this piece I used a lot of different values of grey, I tried to give it texture by adding layers on top of layers, I used all the space on the canvas board and zoomed in on the elephants face instead of painting the whole body.
I used acrylic paint to make this piece and I used only two many brushes, a flat brush to fill in the space and a smaller round brush to add in details and fill in lines. The process I used was first I added in all my basic colors in this piece then after that I went in layer after layer adding darker shades of grey to make it stand out.
Some animals having meaning to them and I wanted to use one that showed peace, and the elephant was the one it also showed power, dignity, and intelligence. Elephants are big animals so I tried to show that by filling up the whole canvas with just the face of an elephant.
My goals as an artist is to try my best in every piece, and challenge myself with new things and learn from it. This piece helped my out by showing me how I can add more colors to get the depth I wanted.
I learned how to add layers and layers to get the finishing piece I want. The final piece is what I imagined it to be, you can tell it is an elephant. This piece will help me improve in my future pieces by showing me how a range of value can change a piece, and also what I can improve on.
Chocolate Lab:
My art piece is a chocolate lab looking toward the viewer of this piece. I only created the head of the dog, and the bottom of its neck. I used mainly a brown but when I wanted to create contrast in the fur I used a lighter brown and white to make the highlights. I then used black to get the drawing more depth so it doesn't look like one solid object.
First I began to sketch out the dog and where my highlights were going to be, after that I began with light pressure so I could get an idea on how I should place the colors then I began to apply heavy pressure to the light areas then blended them. I used the blending stump to try and make my lines more crisp.
At first I was going to do a random image of a chameleon but I then wanted to do something I was interested in. To me this piece is showing how a dog can be brave and bold by just the looks it has.
My goal for this piece was to try something out I've never used before, I like to try new things and see how well I do with them. This also taught me how to blend more colors too and different ways art can be made with oil pastels.
In this piece I learned a lot about oil pastels and how they work at first I had no clue what they were or how to use them. I began to try different techniques and color ways I could do my piece in my sketch book of my first piece. I feel like if I could go back to when we first started this project and know the things I know now I could improve my piece a lot more.
Unknown Man:
In my piece there is a man, maybe in his older age, facing toward the artist, he has his fingers interlocked and in front of him closer to the artist. The title of this piece is Hands. In this piece the elements you can see is value.
In this piece I started off by sketching out the hands and it was somewhat difficult but I didn't rush it. I then began shading in the hands, and starting from the top and working my way down. After that I started shading his shirt then face, finally I did the background and foreground.
My idea for this piece was to create a sense of calmness the man is just sitting there with his hands together peacefully. And also how hands can show emotions, that the face isn't the only thing that shows emotions.
My goal was to create a piece that was calm and peace. In this piece by the quality of the face and hands you can tell this is a older aged man.
In this piece I learned that using time and not rushing you will have a piece that turns out to be better. The final piece is exactly what I imagined. I wanted to do pencil for this piece to try out the new techniques I learned from my first pencil drawing.
